Why do it in Stamppa
Your files never leave your computer
Stamppa is a fast PDF viewer and editor for Windows and Mac. It works offline and never uploads your documents: it connects only to confirm your license. Online PDF sites ask you to upload the file first; here it stays on your disk.
It’s at its best with construction drawings: measure to scale, compare revisions and batch stamp whole sets.
Works offline
On a plane, on site or behind a strict firewall, the tools work the same.
Nothing is uploaded
No cloud and no telemetry. Contracts, IDs and drawings stay with you.
Windows and Mac
One app on Windows 10/11 and on Mac (Apple Silicon), in English and Spanish.
How it works
Pick a level and run
Open Compress
Tools ▸ PDF Tools (Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows), then the Compress card. Drop in one PDF or a whole batch.
Choose how small
Smallest for on-screen viewing, Balanced for email and tablets, High quality for printing, or Lossless to clean up without touching pictures.
Run it
You get new, smaller copies; the originals stay as they were.
What it does
Smaller files, nothing you need lost
Four levels
Smallest (96 dpi pictures), Balanced (150 dpi), High quality (300 dpi) and Lossless.
Drawings stay sharp
Vector lines and text are never changed: only pictures above the level’s resolution are resampled.
Only where it helps
A picture is re-encoded only when that actually makes it smaller.
Whole batches
Compress many files at once, each into a new copy next to the original or in a folder you choose.
In a chain
Add Compress to a saved action, for example OCR, then page numbers, then compress, and run it on a whole folder.
Gray or black and white
Pages to grayscale or black and white, or colored lines to black, in the same window. The drawing stays vector.
A PDF made only of vector lines and text shrinks less, because there are few pictures to downsample. That is on purpose: the lines are never touched.

Common questions
Ask Gus anything elseHow do I reduce the size of a PDF?
Open Tools ▸ PDF Tools, choose Compress, pick a level (Balanced suits email) and run it. Stamppa writes a smaller copy and keeps the original.
Will compressing make my PDF blurry?
Text and vector lines never change. Photos and scans inside the PDF are resampled to the level you choose: 96, 150 or 300 dpi. Lossless leaves pictures as they are and only cleans up the file.
Why did my PDF barely get smaller?
It is probably made mostly of vector lines and text, like a CAD drawing. Those are already compact and Stamppa doesn’t degrade them, so there is little to remove.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Stamppa works on your computer and never sends your documents. It connects only to confirm your license, when it opens and when you sign in, renew or change computer.
Is it free?
Without a license Stamppa is a free PDF viewer: view, search, print, notes, highlights and clouds. This tool is part of the paid plans, and every plan has every tool. Try them all free for 14 days with just your email.
