27.0.0
Stamppa 27, the first public release: a fast PDF viewer for drawing sets, with tools for markup, measuring, comparing, editing, signing and stamping. From now on, versions are named by year.
Viewer
- A fast, stable PDF viewer for drawing sets: pages are drawn in separate processes, so a heavy sheet never locks the window, and one that fails to draw can’t close it.
- Home shows your six most recent files, each with a thumbnail, and starts clean: nothing reopens by itself.
- Sheet sets: many files read as one document, with a sheet index taken from the title blocks.
- Tabs, tab groups and several windows at once; continuous scroll and two pages side by side; dark mode; English and Spanish.
- Autosave, and recovery after a crash.
- Command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K, also in Help): type part of a name to find and run any command, tool, setting, open tab or recent file, in your language or in English, even with a typo. The last commands you used are at the top.
- Large scanned TIF files open, even 400 dpi A0 sheets of several pages, and black-and-white scans stay compact in the PDF (CCITT G4) instead of growing into gray images.
Review and markups
- Clouds, callouts, notes, text boxes, arrows and shapes, pen and highlighter with pen pressure, hatches, and keynotes with legends that update themselves.
- Every markup gets a code like M-0007, in a Bluebeam-style Markups list with custom columns, saved filters and layers per reviewer.
- Spell check in notes, text boxes and text typed on the sheet, with your computer’s own dictionary, in English and Spanish, on Mac and Windows.
- Markups are standard PDF annotations: yours open in Bluebeam and Acrobat, and theirs open in Stamppa. XFDF in and out.
- Tool Chest with work modes, and tasks with a punch list, shared through a folder.
- Send for review (Review ▸ Review round ▸ Send for review…): one marked copy per reviewer, with a due date and a message, in a shared folder or sent as you send any file. Reviewers mark up in the free reader mode and use Send back…; Merge review replies… brings their markups into your PDF with author and date, and Review status… shows who answered and who is missing. It works through files, with no server.
- Mark all like this: from one markup or count on a drawn symbol, Stamppa finds the same symbol on the page, on every page or in the whole sheet set; you leave out any match, then mark the rest in one step. On vector drawings, not on scans.
Measure and estimate
- Length, area with cut-outs, perimeter, count, angle, volume and arc, snapping to the drawing; a scale set in Acrobat or Bluebeam is read as it is.
- Linear and aligned dimensions, like in AutoCAD.
- Snap to curves: arcs, circles and door swings, with their center, quadrants and ends, the nearest point on the curve and where it crosses a line. A door swing closes the room for Spaces’ dynamic fill.
- Georeferenced PDFs: on a site plan that carries its georeference, the pointer shows latitude and longitude (and easting and northing in UTM), you measure ground distances and areas in meters, and Review ▸ Markups ▸ Export points with coordinates (CSV)… saves the points of your measurements and markups. Read only: Stamppa does not add a georeference.
- Spaces per room, quantities by space and level, takeoff to Excel, and a Quantity Link that updates its own sheet in your workbook.
- Estimate from the takeoff (Measure ▸ Estimate): your own price list with unit prices and assemblies, a cost item on each measurement or space, and the totals by sheet, level and space, exported to Excel or added to your Quantity Link workbook.
Compare and check
- Live Compare on the sheet, with no extra PDF; text compare; and a whole set compared and slip-sheeted at once, keeping your markups.
- Check the set (Review ▸ Check the set…, also a PDF Tools card): before a set goes out, fixed rules with no AI find call-outs to sheets or details that are not there, titles and revisions that differ from the sheet index, sheets missing from the index or the set, duplicate sheet numbers, written scales that differ from the scale set, and revision dates out of order. A PDF or CSV report, and clouds on copies if you want.
Edit the drawing
- Edit word (Shift+W), Edit line (X) and Edit paragraph (Shift+Y): retype the drawing’s own text a whole word, line or paragraph at a time, never cut mid-word. It stays text, in place.
- Edit paragraph flows the lines again inside the paragraph’s width, with font, size, alignment, indents, line spacing and horizontal and vertical scale in the panel.
- Text style (Shift+X), Edit page content (O) for the drawing’s own lines, blocks and pictures, crop, page size, and true redaction.
Sign
- Request signatures (Review ▸ Stamp & sign ▸ Request signatures…): ask other people to sign, in order and by a due date. The request and every signature travel in the PDF itself, with a signature record page at the end; no outside service.
- Each person signs with a drawn signature or with a certificate. A drawn signature does not prove who signed; for that, use a certificate.
- Certificate signatures (PAdES), also on a whole set at once, and locked signatures burnt into the page.
- Sign with a certificate from your Mac’s Keychain or the Windows certificate store, beside .pfx files, without exporting the key: it never leaves the system, which asks for the password when it needs it. Long-term validation (LTV, PAdES B-LT) keeps the certificate’s revocation status in the PDF, so the signature still verifies after the certificate expires; with no internet to fetch it, Stamppa says so and lets you sign without LTV or cancel.
Tools
- Batch Stamp: stamp whole folders with a dated, numbered stamp filled from each title block, with a check before every run and one-click undo.
- Whiteboard with mind maps, diagrams and napkin mode.
- PDF toolbox: merge, split, compress, OCR, Office ⇄ PDF, watermark, page numbers and protect, on whole batches of files.
- Join sheets (a PDF Tools card): a drawing cut into several sheets along match lines becomes one big page at one scale, with its markups, so you measure across it.
- An AI assistant on your computer can read the open set and place markups, if you turn it on in Settings ▸ AI assistant. It is off by default, and Stamppa itself sends nothing anywhere.
Fixes
- Closing the window no longer quits Stamppa: it keeps running in the Dock on a Mac and in the tray on Windows.
- Hold Shift to keep a line horizontal or vertical in every two-point tool, the pen and highlighter, and on the whiteboard.
- Every tool’s tooltip shows its key.
